How are electors chosen?

This process varies from state to state. Typically, political parties nominate electors at their state conventions. Sometimes the process happens by a vote of the party's central committee. The electors are often state-elected officials, political party leaders, or respected individuals within the party. Comprised together, these electors are called the "Electoral College."
