About usa.catechize.ing
usa.catechize.ing is a web edition of A Patriot's Catechism of the United States Constitution. It presents the catechism as a searchable, browsable question-and-answer reference so the material is easier to read, teach, review, and revisit.
In the book's preface, JD Hall explains that he wrote this catechism in the familiar question-and-answer style long used for instruction and memorization. He argues that children should be catechized in the Constitution so they understand the structure of American government, the meaning of its liberties, and the limits placed on civil power.
Hall also credits Arthur Stansbury's 1828 Catechism on the Constitution as an important source, while noting that he expanded the material to account for later constitutional developments, including the Civil War era and subsequent amendments. The introduction encourages readers to take one question at a time, rehearse it regularly, and make sure the answer is understood rather than merely memorized.
This site follows that same aim by organizing the 342 questions into thematic groups, making them easier to navigate by topic, study in sequence, and revisit over time.
Credit is due to JD Hall for putting together A Patriot's Catechism of the United States Constitution, and to Michael Coughlin for providing the website this edition is built on.
