How is the Vice President chosen?

Originally, electors could vote for one of two candidates for President and the candidate with the second highest vote tally would become Vice President. Since the 12th Amendment, however, electors could vote for both President and Vice President separately. Seeing that a states electors always vote for their party's presidential candidate, it is nearly certain that they will vote for the party's vice presidential candidate as well. (see next question)
