A jury is a company of citizens, chosen by lot, and who have no personal interest in the matter, who hear both the evidence brought against the accused, and that for his defense, who through deliberation among themselves seek to agree whether the accusation has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt or not. When they declare this agreement in opinion, it is called their verdict; and according to this, the case is decided.
